The theme in Chains is that you have to fight for what you believe in no matter what the consequences are. An example I the story is when Isabel learns that Ruth was sold, she didn't pretend like nothing happened, she actually confronted Madame.
Another example in the story is when Isabel learns that Madame's husband is planning against General George Washington. Isabel sneaks out during the night to tell the resistance against King George that Madame's husband is planning to assassinate Washington. If she were to be caught sneaking out at night she would probably be executed because she is a slave.
If I were in Isabel's position I don't know if I would really risk my life to warn a couple of rebels. This is why I believe that the theme in Chains is to never give up. Isabel show tremendous amounts of courage throughout the story and by doing so creates a lesson that cannot be forgotten.

My favorite character in Chains would have to be Isabel. She is always there when her sister Ruth needs her, for example: in the story ''Madam'' (A slave owner that owns Isabel and her sister) heard one of the children laughing and when she asked who laughed Isabel took the blame for Ruth and got slapped instead.
Another reason why Isabel is my favorite character is because she is very wise for her age. There is a part in the story where they have the perfect opportunity to escape but Isabel doesn't because she knows that if she tried her master would find her and her sister and they would be punished greatly.
Throughout the story the two slave girls have to deal with a lot of pain but Isabel somehow comes up with enough strength to comfort her sister. There is a scene in the story where Ruth has a seizure and Madam thinks she is possessed by the devil so she beats her with a broom as she is on the floor, Isabel then preceded to throw herself on top of Ruth to protect her. If Isabel had not protected Ruth like this Madam would have killed her. As sad and dramatic as this chapter was it really showed the love the two share for each other, it also shows that giving up is never the answer and that you need to fight to the end and that is what Isabel is all about, fighting to the end.

Noah's Blog on Fablehaven

1)      My favorite book is Fablehaven because it has a great storyline and it is easy to connect with the characters.
2)      I love to read fantasy books such as Witch and Wizard, Harry Potter, and Beyonders.
3)      Fablehaven is a story about a boy named Seth and a girl named Kendra. They are going to their Grandparent’s house for the first time. The kids are told that there are exotic animals on the property because it is a wildlife reserve. They find clues that suggest that there is more to the property that their grandfather has told them. Eventually they discover that if they drink the milk produced from the cows on the property they can see into a new world hidden on their own. Seth and Kendra drink the milk and all the animals they see turn into magical creatures. That is when the story begins to take off. Throughout the story they go on many magical adventures on and off the property. SPOILER! At the end of the story Kendra is blessed by fairies giving here many magical powers, she no longer has to drink the milk to see magical creatures. This five book series never gets boring, Brandon Mull never runs out of ideas to make each book a brand new adventure. Thanks to this series I’m sleep deprived.
